The Evaluation Process

At CHC, evaluations are guided by care, expertise, and a deep commitment to understanding each individual’s unique strengths and challenges. Our team takes a thoughtful, collaborative approach—gathering valuable insights and delivering clear, comprehensive findings through a personalized, multi-step process.

1

Initial Meeting

(90 minutes)

Every evaluation begins with an intake appointment with all available parents/caregivers where we gather information about your child’s history, discuss your specific concerns and goals for your child’s evaluation, and make recommendations for the type and scope of the evaluation and next steps.

For young adults, we typically meet with you first and schedule a separate parent interview with your permission, though parents are welcome to join the initial meeting if you prefer.

2

School Observation (optional)

(30-60 minutes)

If clinically necessary, we conduct a classroom observation before testing begins to assess your child’s behavior in the school setting during both structured instructions and unstructured periods (e.g., recess).

3

Interviews and Questionnaires

With parental consent, we gather information from your child’s teachers and other key adults in your child’s life (e.g., therapists, coaches, pediatricians, tutors) through interviews and questionnaires. For young adults, we gather information from key people in your life (e.g., parent, roommate, coworker, teacher) with your consent.

4

Testing Sessions

Comprehensive evaluations often involve several hours of testing, spread over two to four sessions depending on individual needs. These evaluations may be multidisciplinary, involving multiple specialists to address a range of concerns. The total testing time is determined by the specific issues being assessed and the goals of the evaluation.

5

Feedback Meeting and Report

(120 minutes)

Approximately two weeks after testing concludes, we meet to review the results and discuss recommendations in detail. This meeting is designed to provide a comfortable space to explore the findings, whether the evaluation was completed for yourself (young adults) or your child.

During the meeting, you’ll receive a 2-3 page summary outlining the main findings, diagnoses, and action plan, with the full report provided within four weeks.

6

Child/Adolescent Feedback Meeting

(60 minutes)

An optional (but recommended) follow-up session with your child is available to help them understand their learning profile, including their strengths. This information is presented in an age-appropriate way and is designed to empower self-advocacy and build confidence.

7

Follow-Up Support

(60 minutes)

After you receive the full report, we invite you to schedule a complimentary follow-up appointment to discuss any questions or concerns. Our goal is to ensure that you fully understand the evaluation findings and recommendations, empowering you to confidently advocate for yourself (young adults) or your child’s unique needs.

8

School Meetings and Additional Services

For an additional fee, clinicians can meet with key providers and educators in your child’s life (e.g., teacher, school counselor, therapist, pediatrician) to share results and discuss recommended treatments and educational strategies. Families can also schedule follow-up consultations as new needs arise. We are committed to supporting students and families throughout their journey.
